Dr. Fiorenzo Scaroni

 

Fiorenzo Scaroni obtained an ETH degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD at the ETHZ  Institute for Biomedical Technology in the area of use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in medical applications. He had various positions in the ICT area, such as head of Systems and Decentralized Networks at the ETHZ and as project manager for the construction and operations of the Swiss National Supercomputer Center (CSCS in Manno). He acted during 13 years as Secretary General of SWITCH, the National Research and Education Network (NREN) offering telematics and informatics services to Swiss Universities and Research organisations. During the same time, he was the Swiss delegate in the e-IRG, the e-Infrastructure reflection group, a political and strategic committee of the European council for promotion in Europe of new technologies in teaching, university research and industry.
He was involved as consultant and coordinator of various projects of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and in particular of the Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera Italiana (SUPSI, University of Applied Sciences). After a period as interim head of SUPSI he was appointed to head of Applied Research in the Direction of the SUPSI. He was also lecturer in the area of computer networks and telecommunication at the USI. As expert and commission member for CTI (Commission for Technology and Innovation) he evaluated during 14 years more than 500 project applications, mainly in the ICT area.
